Natural hair oils are great for caring, protecting, and repairing your hair. You should invest in them. The list in this post includes some of my faves and more.
When it comes to repairing, caring for, and protecting your natural hair, many items are available, and one can easily get confused.
Also, so many products are touted today as magical hair potions. One needs to be careful. And so if you want to avoid pesticides, parabens ( so not good for your hair) and be in charge of what goes on your hair. Then your best choice is to use natural oils to take care of your hair.
However, before trying any of these natural oils, it is essential to know the ideal ones for your hair type and texture as some can be heavy and weigh your hair if your hair is lightweight, for example, castor oil.
Okay, let’s get to the main gist of this post, which is to know more about the best natural oils for your hair. Ready? Let’s go.
10 best natural hair oils that help protect, renew, hydrate, nurture, and moisturize your natural hair
Natural hair oil 1: Castor oil
This oil is high up in my list of favourite hair oils; what’s not to love about it! I use it to protect my edges and regrow the ones I have lost from bad hair practices in the past.
Castor oil has been recognized and studied as a natural hair oil that helps with the thinning hairline. Also, this oil helps you grow thicker hair. (Yay me, with castor oil in my hair routine, I know I am on my way to thicker, fuller, and more luxurious hair).
Just add castor oil to the receding hairline to restore hair thickness in that specific area. Ideal for tighter curls, this heavy oil works by sealing your natural hair with moisture.
This oil is heavy, so use it lightly and when needed. Do note that if you use too much castor oil, your natural hair will be weighed down. And we do not want that. Moderation is key ( this is my favourite quote for the use of natural hair products).

Natural hair oil 2: Avocado oil
Avocado oil can be said to be a natural hair elixir and powerhouse. And it’s rich in amino acids, folic acids, fatty acids, magnesium, copper, iron, proteins, and vitamins A, B, D, and E.
It’s one of the best natural hair oils as it helps to protect your natural hair from damage due to excessive sun exposure. Also, this oil is perfect for hot oil treatment.
Natural hair oil 3: Coconut oil
This is another of my faves for both haircare and skincare oil. I call it the black don’t crack oil.
With anti-fungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties, coconut oil is one of the few oils that effectively penetrates your hair shaft.
Also, coconut oil can be used on all types of natural hair. By preventing hair loss, it helps to maintain strong and healthy hair. This oil is light and is excellent for fine natural hair, and natural hair types can be deeply conditioned using it.
Natural hair oil 4: Argan oil
Argan oil is very beneficial for your natural hair. It contains Vitamin E, linoleic acid, and oleic acid, which are responsible for its superb moisturizing properties.
Furthermore, argan oil is a light oil and is quickly absorbed by your hair, making your hair more manageable and increasing its shine. Ultimately, argan oil restores damaged hair follicles and decreases hair breakage.

Natural hair oil 5: Olive oil
Your best bet is olive oil if you want to reinforce as well as soften your natural hair. And guess what, this is number one on my favourite list of natural hair oils.
This oil, renowned as a natural conditioner, can also be used as a dandruff remedy due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
For best results, use an extra virgin variety of olive oil, whether you choose to use olive oil for pre-shampoo or hot oil treatment.
However, use this oil in moderation, especially for fine natural hair, as the oil may be heavy.
Natural hair oil 6: Jojoba oil
Jojoba oil is one of the oils I want to try out soon, so many good reviews about it. One notable fact about this oil is that it is similar to the natural sebum oil that the scalp produces, so it is absorbed quickly by the hair strands.
Also, it helps to lock in the moisture in your hair, and it is thus regarded as one of the best sealant oils.
For use, you can add this oil to your shampoo or conditioner to enrich them further. And, for your scalp massage, this is the perfect natural oil.
Natural hair oil 7: Sweet almond oil
Sweet almond oil is rich in essential fatty acids, magnesium, protein, vitamin E, vitamin B, vitamin A, and antioxidants. Also, this oil is light.
In addition to sealing your hair with moisture, sweet almond oil often softens and enhances the elasticity of your natural hair.
Natural hair oil 8: Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil is known to nourish your hair roots and unclog your hair follicles.
The oil from the tea tree is very concentrated, so use it sparingly. Also, you have to use carrier oils such as coconut or almond oil to mix it as you do not apply this oil directly to your scalp (Don’t be like me who didn’t mix it when using it for pimple treatment, and dried out my face lol. Seriously, this oil is also called the pimple oil).
Tea tree oil has use in both haircare and skincare. Most importantly, this oil also helps eliminate the complaints of itchy scalp, dandruff issues, and lice.
Natural hair oil 9: Rosemary oil
Rosemary oil is another potent oil that should be combined with the carrier oil before application (Yes o, I used this oil for my edges one time like that; next morning, the skin around my edges had dried out. Yes, I knew I was supposed to mix it; maybe I wanted to test how potent it was. Sometimes I don’t even know what goes on in my head lol. Anyways, now you know that you should definitely mix this oil with a carrier oil, should you decide to use it).
This light oil has various anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and is rich in antioxidants.
It facilitates the circulation of blood in your scalp, thus promoting hair growth. Plus, this oil has a sweet relaxing fragrance.

Natural hair oil 10: Neem oil
Neem oil is also called Dongoyaro from where I call from because it grows really tall. It has lots of medicinal properties (they use it for newborns too).
Although the odour of neem oil may put you off, this is one of the best natural oils for taking care of your natural hair.
Owing to its potent antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, if you have any scalp disorders such as dermatitis, psoriasis, or dandruff, this oil is best to treat them.
This oil also restores, renews, and rejuvenates the hair, as well as promote growth.
The takeaway
Using natural hair oils to care for your hair will help make your natural hair journey easier. And make sure that your hair gets the best nutrients free from chemicals and whatnots.
Each of these natural hair oils listed above are suitable for your hair. You can try mixing them to find oils that work to create your hair growth oil for your hair.
